Quickstart
Your first 30 minutes
From a new account to a first calculated, traceable figure. Five set-up steps, then the journeys that match what you report.
By the end you'll have
- An organisation with a facility and an active reporting year
- Your factor sources chosen
- One calculated record, with provenance you can open
About 30 minutes.
Set up once
- 1
Create or select your organisation
Organisation Setup → General Info: name, industry, category, address and logo. Save changes only sends what you edited.
- 2
Add a facility
Facility → + Add New. Name, type, country, address, city and postal code; type the latitude and longitude, or use Choose from map to drop a pin.
- 3
Open a reporting year
Reporting Year: a name, start and end dates, frequency (annual, semi-annual, quarterly or monthly) and status. Set Active makes it the default for new records.
- 4
Choose factor sources
Emission Factors: put the publisher for your region first. See Choose and order your factor sources.
- 5
Check your preferences
Settings → Preferences: default emission unit (MTCO2e, tCO2e or kgCO2e) and number format. Both change how every figure is displayed, not how it is calculated.
Skip Reporting Assets for now
Disposal sites, land parcels and forest stands only matter if you use the operated landfill, land carbon stock or forest categories. Most organisations never open that tab.
Get a first number
The quickest proof that everything is wired up is one record of fuel. Go to Report a year of fuel and electricity, add a single diesel record, calculate, and open the green icon to see the publisher's row behind it.
Then pick your path
| If you have… | Start with |
|---|---|
| A few bills and fuel totals | Report a year of fuel and electricity |
| A spreadsheet of hundreds of rows | Bulk-upload from a spreadsheet |
| Waste streams and a recycling plan | Compare a waste scenario |
| Meters on water intake and use | Close a site water balance |
| Red icons and you do not know why | Fix records that failed |
| An audit coming up | Show an auditor where a number came from |
The mental model in five lines
- A record is something you did: burned fuel, used power, sent waste.
- A calculation turns a record into CO₂e using a published factor, and writes the result as a new row.
- Every result names the publisher, edition and GWP set it used.
- A record that cannot be calculated stays visible with the reason.
- Settings change the next calculation, not past ones, until you recalculate.
