Fix records that failed to calculate

Slate would rather stop with a reason than give you a plausible number nobody can defend. This is the routine for turning red icons green.

By the end you'll have

  • A short list of what is failing, grouped by cause
  • A repeatable loop: read the reason, fix the cause, recalculate

About 10 minutes.

1. Find them

Open the Calculated tab on Emission Data or Energy Data and sort or filter by status. Failed records keep their place in the table with a red icon, so the problem is visible instead of hidden inside a smaller total.

2. Read the reason

Click the red icon. The drawer shows the record, the exact message, a suggested fix (often naming the settings page involved) and a checklist. The message is written by the engine, not a generic “something went wrong”.

Two kinds of failure

A publication boundary (this publisher does not cover this activity at all) is skipped automatically: Slate moves to your next source. A data gap (the publisher should cover it, but a value is missing) stops with an error, or moves on, depending on your factor policy. See Factor resolution.

3. Match it to a cause

The message says…Usually meansFix
No … mapping for …Slate has no link from this activity to the publisher's rowChoose a more specific activity, or add a source that covers it
No … release is loaded and active for <date>No factor edition is valid for the record's dateCheck the transaction date; ask your administrator to load the edition

The full catalogue, with causes, is on Troubleshooting.

4. Fix and recalculate

Change the record (or the setting) and run the calculation again. Each run recalculates the records it covers, replacing the earlier result, so a fixed record turns green and the old error is gone.

Fix the setting once

If thirty records fail for the same reason, the cause is almost always a setting (source order, a missing province, a GWP set), not thirty records. Fix the setting, then recalculate once.
