Calculated Emissions & Errors

The Calculated tab on Emission Data and Energy Data is where results live. It's dense on purpose, everything you need to trust a number is one click away.

Choosing what's visible

Click Columns to open the Visible Columns popover. A core set (fuel or refrigerant, activity, methodology, CO2, CH4, N2O, CO2e, transaction date, factor region, status) is on by default. An “Additional Detail” section holds extra columns, calculated-at timestamp, region source, and module-specific fields like distance or mass, all off by default. Check one to promote it into a real column instead of leaving it buried in the row's expand panel.

The Activities Detail panel

Click a row to expand it. The panel shows every field about that calculation that isn't already a visible column, so turning on more columns actually shrinks what you see here, the two are the same information, just organised differently depending on what you've promoted.

The three status icons

  • Red, calculation error

Click to open the error drawer with the specific reason and a suggested fix.

  • Amber, GWP-vintage mismatch

The calculation succeeded, but mixes your organisation's GWP set with a publisher's own precomputed figure. Click for the same provenance detail as the green icon.

  • Green, calculated successfully

Click to see exactly where the figure came from.

Where this figure came from

Clicking a successful (or mismatched) row opens a panel with several sections: As published shows the publisher's own row next to what Slate stored, including the source file and a checksum. How the publisher was chosen shows the resolution path. Global warming potentials shows which GWP values were applied. If a gas has no published figure for that row, an unquantified gases section explains why, and whether it's something you can fix.

Note

This is the audit trail in practice, if an auditor asks how a number was reached, this panel is the answer, not a guess or a re-derivation.

When a record couldn't be calculated

Clicking the red error icon opens a drawer with the record, the exact error message, a suggested fix (often pointing you to a specific settings page, like Emission Factors or GWP Sets), and a general troubleshooting checklist. Fix the underlying issue, missing region data or an unmapped activity type are common causes, then recalculate.

Selecting and deleting rows

Row checkboxes are hidden by default. Click Select to reveal them (the button becomes Done while active), tick the rows you want gone, and use the red Delete selected button that appears. A confirmation dialog requires you to type to confirm before anything is removed. Your selection automatically clears if you change a filter, page or search, so you don't accidentally delete something you can no longer see.
