Journey · Organisation Setup → Emission Factors

Choose and order your factor sources

Which publishers Slate asks, in what order, and how strict it is about gaps. The one setting that most changes your numbers.

Before you start

  • Administrator access to Organisation Setup

By the end you'll have

  • A source order that fits where you operate
  • A policy for what happens when a publisher has no answer

About 10 minutes.

1. Open the setting

Organisation Setup → Emission Factors. You will see a reorderable list of enabled publishers, a dropdown to add more, and a handful of checkboxes.

2. Put your home publisher first

The first source is your preferred one; the rest are fallbacks asked in order. Use the arrows to reorder and the remove button to drop a source.

Two regional gotchas

Canada: set each facility's Province / Territory. ECCC publishes grid factors per province only, so a Canadian facility without a province will not calculate.

Africa: with US EPA first, an African site is priced at the US national average. Put Ember above it so the country's own figure is used.

3. Decide what a gap means

  • Record an error (default)

If no source has a factor, the record fails with the reason. Safer: nothing is quietly priced from an unrelated publisher.

  • Continue down the list

Keep asking the next source until one answers. Fewer red icons; read the provenance panel to see which publisher answered.

Publication boundaries are exempt: a source that documents it does not cover an activity is always passed over.

4. Switch on the extras you need

  • Well-to-tank

Upstream emissions of producing and delivering the fuel, as a separate line.

  • Transmission & distribution losses

Grid losses on purchased electricity, as a separate line.

  • Outside-of-scopes biogenic CO₂

Biogenic CO₂ from biofuels, reported separately from Scopes 1–3.

  • Site location

Restricts which categories a facility's country allows.

  • GWP mismatch flag

Marks rows mixing GWP vintages with the amber icon.

Note

Changing this setting changes what the next calculation uses. Existing results keep the provenance they were calculated with until you recalculate.
