Energy Data

Scope 2 purchased-energy tracking, starting with electricity and covering everything else your organisation buys rather than burns.

The four tabs

Energy Data for records, Calculated for results, Category for a breakdown, Charts for the visual view, same shape as Emission Data.

Adding an electricity activity

  1. 1

    Click the Electricity button

Opens the Add Electricity Activity dialog.

  2. 2

    Enter Quantity and Unit

A blue preview line appears showing the normalised MWh figure as soon as both are set, so you can sanity-check the value before saving.

  3. 3

    Set the Transaction Date

    Required, pre-filled with today's date.

  4. 4

Optionally expand Supplier & Utility, and Classification

Electricity Supplier, Balancing Authority, Utility, Building Category and Operation Type. Setting a supplier here is what makes a market-based figure use that supplier's own rate instead of a residual-mix fallback.

  5. 5

Set Facility and Reporting Year, then save

Same pattern as every other module.

Steam, chilled water, renewables and CHP

Each has its own add form under the same module, following the same shape as electricity:

  • Renewable Energy

On-site generation and RECs. "Add Renewable Energy Activity" dialog.

  • Steam & Hot Water

District heat network consumption. "Add Steam / Hot Water Activity" dialog.

  • Chilled Water

District cooling network consumption. "Add Chilled Water Activity" dialog.

  • Combined Heat & Power (CHP)

On-site cogeneration outputs. "Add CHP Activity" dialog.

Filtering by goal category

The electricity table can be filtered by Goal category: All Categories, Goal Subject, or Goal Excluded. Useful when your organisation is tracking a reduction target against a defined subset of facilities and wants to see just those records, or explicitly the ones outside the target's scope.

Running a calculation

Calculate Energy from the toolbar. Results split into location-based and market-based figures, see Scope 2 Electricity in Methodology for exactly how each is derived.

Note

The Calculated tab's Region Source column tells you how precise a given electricity figure actually is, a utility-specific match, a state-level lookup, a country average, or a last-resort national fallback. Worth checking before you rely heavily on any single number.

Note

Canadian facilities: set the facility's Province / Territory in Organisation Setup, and put Canada ECCC first in Emission Factor settings. Canada publishes grid factors per province only, so a Canadian facility without a province won't calculate. The Factor Region column then shows the province, for example Ontario.

Note

African facilities, including Nigeria: add Ember to Emission Factor settings, above US EPA. With EPA first, an African site is priced at the US national average. The Factor Region column shows the country, for example Nigeria.
