Energy Data

Everything an organisation buys rather than burns: grid electricity, district heat, district cooling, on-site renewables and CHP, accounted location-based and market-based.

Categories

  • Purchased electricity

Grid electricity for a facility, with optional supplier, balancing authority and utility.

  • Renewable energy

On-site generation and certificates (RECs), which affect the market-based figure.

  • Steam and hot water

    District heat network consumption.

  • Chilled water

    District cooling network consumption.

  • Combined heat and power

    On-site cogeneration outputs.

Electricity accounting

Every electricity record keeps the quantity as entered and a normalised MWh figure beside it, so differently metered sites compare. Two results are calculated: location-based (the grid where you consume) and market-based (your contract, certificates, or a residual mix).

Resolution methodMeaningPrecision
Utility grid regionA match to the named utility or balancing authorityHighest
State grid lookupA state-level figureGood
Country levelA national averageModerate
Hardcoded fallbackA last-resort national valueLowest. Check before relying on it.

The method is stored on each result and shown in the Region Source column, so imprecise figures are visible rather than hidden.

Full detail, including how heat, cooling and CHP are handled, is in Scope 2 electricity and Heat, steam and cooling.

Record structure

Required: transaction date, quantity, unit and facility. After calculation, an electricity record also carries the resolved grid region and both factors. The electricity table can be filtered by goal category (all, goal subject, goal excluded) when a reduction target covers only some sites.
