Module reference · Scope 1 and 3

Emission Data

Every direct and value-chain emission source that isn't purchased energy or waste: fuel, vehicles, refrigerants, industrial processes, agriculture, land and travel. Each category has its own form because a litre of diesel and a herd of cattle need different inputs.

Scopes
1, 3, and outside-of-scopes (biogenic and land removals)
Entry
Manual forms per category, or the Emission upload template
Result
One calculated row per gas stream, with provenance
Factor sources
UK DEFRA, US EPA, IPCC, Canada ECCC, in your order

What the module covers

Emission Data is the largest module. Categories are grouped by theme, and each maps to a calculator in the engine. The scope of a category is fixed by the calculator, never guessed from the size of a result.

ThemeExamplesScope
Combustion and direct operationsStationary and mobile combustion, refrigerant and fugitive leaks, coal, oil and gas, operated landfill1
Industrial processesCement, lime, ammonia, steel, electronics, ODS substitutes, SF₆1
AgricultureEnteric fermentation, manure, soils, lime and urea, peat1
Land use and removalsForest land, settlement trees, land conversion, flooded land, harvested woodOutside scopes
Value chainBusiness travel, freight, hotel stays, materials, spend-based purchases, water supply and treatment3

The full list is in the User Guide

Every category with a one-line description is in Emission Data in the User Guide. How each is calculated is in Methodology.

What a calculation produces

Each calculated row carries CO₂, CH₄ and N₂O individually, a CO₂e figure under the organisation's GWP set (or the publisher's own pre-calculated CO₂e), the scope, and a link to the exact factor row used.

  • Direct row

Combustion or process emissions, in the record's scope.

  • Upstream and loss rows

Well-to-tank and similar, as separate rows when you enable them.

  • Biogenic row

Biogenic CO₂ reported outside the scopes.

  • Error row

If the record cannot be calculated, the reason, kept visible rather than dropped.
